Since 2001, the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts has held the biannual Kaohsiung International Container Arts Festival. The public art festival, which features a collection of international artwork created from shipping containers, has become a distinctive event for Kaohisung, one of Taiwan’s major shipping ports.

Twelve artists/teams from countries including Taiwan, Spain, Germany, Italy and the United States, were selected to participate in this year’s festival, which will take place from December 10, 2011 to January 31, 2012. Participants were asked to use the large cargo shipping containers to create artwork that follows this year’s theme of “Artbitat.” Interactive installations, painting or creative reconfigurations will be used to portray the “home” transcending time and place.
