In Dog Years
Wood, video monitors, paint, DVD players
Variable dimensions
2003
It is said that dogs age seven times that of a human beings. It is this perception and alteration of time that is the basis for the sculptural installation In Dog Years. In it, three doghouses are set-up in the center of the exhibition space. Inside the doghouses are video monitors that display an image of a young puppy. Each doghouse displays the video at a different rate of time. In the first doghouse, the puppy is seven times slower than real time. In the middle doghouse, the puppy is displayed at real time, and in third doghouse, the puppy is displayed seven times faster than real time.
The installation, with its altering and ultimately subjective perception of time, addresses the inconsistency of perception and its impact on the micro and macro world-views we all hold.
