Y2K is the shorthand term for “the year 2000.” Y2K was commonly used to refer to a widespread computer programming shortcut that was expected to cause extensive havoc as the year changed from 1999 to 2000 at the turn of the Millenium. The title Why2K? asks the question of why, and the coded installation answers it..

For the installation, binary code numbers (0’s and 1’s) were laser-cut on an industrial CNC machine from aluminum. The binary code letters were mounted in a continuous line around the gallery with each eight-digit code spelling out a letter. When read from one end of the gallery to the other, the code converted into the statement “Too many damn numbers.”
